What is Hot Air through Nonwoven

Hot air through nonwoven, also called ATB nonwoven and through-air nonwoven, is a type of nonwoven made using the thermal bonding process, it utilizes heated air to bond ES fibers together. This method is known for creating soft, lofty, and breathable nonwovens.

Our ATB nonwovens are processed by double-carding technology for creating nonwovens with specific functions when combined, such as softness, liquid penetration, weak acid, or more, becoming increasingly popular in baby diapers and pants, feminine sanitary napkins and panty liners.

These nonwovens make an important contribution to premium hygiene product needs.

PRODUCTS

Our hot air through bonding nonwovens categories: comfort, weak acid, antibacterial, super dry, silky, extreme softness, and tencel are designed to meet different needs. All can be used in hygiene products where high softness and comfort are essential, such as topsheet, backsheet, waistband.

SUNREE Weak Acid hot air through nonwoven uses weak acid ES fibers combined with added vitamin E, promoting skin pH balance and preserving the skin’s natural acidic barrier. Improved heat resistance also ensures long-lasting strong hydrophilic properties and superior protection, comfort, and performance.

SUNREE Antibactecial hot air through nonwoven uses plant-based antimicrobial agents for lasting antibacterial protection. It inhibits staphylococcus aureus, candida albicans, fungi, and molds, effectively preventing bacterial growth while ensuring skin safety and comfort. Complies with GB-T 20944-2 and ASTM E 2149 standards.

SUNREE Super Dry hot air through nonwoven uses the single-point permeation treatment, allowing liquid to rapidly penetrate a targeted area into the acquisition distribution layer and absorbent core, while keeping the surrounding areas dry. This ensures prolonged skin dryness, effectively reducing the risk of rash in babies.

SUNREE Extreme Softness hot air through nonwoven uses ultra-fine fibers, offering a silky-smooth touch and delicate texture that gently cares for the skin. Its lightweight design ensures a thinner, more comfortable experience for the wearers.

SUNREE Natural Silky hot air through nonwoven is infused with silk protein bio-essence, and enriched with amino acids for exceptional moisturizing properties. It creates a natural protective barrier upon skin contact, enhancing hydration, and delivering antioxidant benefits. It is particularly effective in caring for sensitive skin.

SUNREE Plant Essence hot air through nonwoven combines natural plant extracts like tea polyphenols, aloe polysaccharides, flavonoids, and/or vitamins from green tea, aloe vera, chamomile, or cottonseed oil into fibers. Its molecular structure closely resembles human sebum, enhances moisture, provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, and ensures gentle care for sensitive skin.

SUNREE Comfort hot air through nonwoven is our standard hydrophobic and hydrophilic nonwoven series, engineered to provide superior softness while maintaining cost-efficiency.

Applications

Our products are key components in manufacturing disposable absorbent products like baby diapers, feminine sanitary pads, adult incontinence briefs and underpads.

TECHNOLOGY

It is an integrated one-step process based on hot air through thermal bonding technologies. It creates superior softness compared to traditional spunbond nonwovens.

Leveraging our existing hot air through bonding technology platform, extensive expertise, and innovation approach, we have developed functional air through bonding nonwoven with varying degrees of softness to meet the needs of diverse markets.

SUNREE hot air through bonding nonwovens range addresses diverse functional needs, like low-melting point, weak acid, rapid penetration, antibacterial, extreme-soft, super dry,  and natural skin-friendly series. Additionally, plant extracts like green tea, chamomile, aloe vera, and olive oil can be added to provide hydration, improve skin conditions, and deliver gentle care for delicate skin.

When special properties like silky, fast penetration, or strong shielding are requested, we use our double-carded technology, the upper and lower layers of the product are made of different types of fibers, which will have special functions when combined.

No matter which product you need, we work with a long list of general characteristics of our nonwovens.

Manufacturing Process

It is a long way from fiber to nonwoven in a through-air bonding process and attention to detail in every link of the chain is required.

Raw material preparation, 0.8-2.0 dtex ES fibers are the main raw materials used to produce our hot air through bonding nonwovens.

Fiber opening and blending, the fibers are opened and blended to ensure a uniform mixture, which helps create individual fiber stands ready for web formation.

Carding, the opened and blended fibers are carded to align and layer them into a web structure, which helps to create a uniform fiber distribution. The carded fibers are laid down on a conveyor belt or screen to form a loose fiber web, which serves as the basis for the bonding process.

Heat application, the fiber web is passed through an oven or heated chamber where hot air is blown through the web. The ATB process uses negative pressure or suction to pull the hot air through an open conveyor apron holding the nonwoven fabric. This method allows for rapid and even transmission of heat.

Melting of binder fibers, the temperature of the hot air is carefully controlled to melt low-melting-point binder fibers without affecting higher-melting-point carrier fibers. As the binder melts, it forms molten droplets throughout the fabric.

Cooling and bonding, as the web cools, the molten binder solidifies at contact points between the fibers, creating strong bonds that hold the fabric together. This bonding process results in a nonwoven fabric that is soft, strong, and extensible.

Finishing treatment, after bonding, the fabric may undergo additional finishing processes such as calendering to adjust thickness and texture. Hot roll calendering produces thinner fabrics, while cold calendering results in thicker materials. Other treatments may include embossing or perforating to enhance specific properties.

Cutting and roll-up, nonwovens are scanned by cameras for quality control before being rolled onto shafts in large jumbo rolls, and subsequently slit into the required smaller width rolls and packed according to customer requirements.

QUALITY

Superior product quality is nothing but a good standard. It is reliability in every step of the process that is hard to come by.
